98% of lens wearers don't do what they're told!

A major study in Manchester has found that 98% of all contact lens wearers are not fully compliant with the advice given to them by their optometrist. The White Paper Report 'Wearer compliance with contemporary contact lenses', is based on an online study of 1,402 wearers of two-weekly or monthly replaced lenses in the UK and across seven European countries: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Russia and Poland. Responders were asked about all aspects of their contact lens care routine and the results were surprising.

  • 44 per cent of UK wearers do not always wash their hands before insertion
  • only 14 per cent of UK wearers rub, rinse and soak the lenses properly after removing them
  • 45 per cent using soap and water in place of solution to clean their case Twelve per cent admit to using water as part of a lens care regimen
  • 7 per cent have used saliva at some point to clean their lenses

cameronoptometry always recommends that you wear your lenses in the way advised by your optometrist and that you use only the solutions prescribed for your particular lens type and individual situation.
