Germans give sight to blind animals
S&V Techonlogies in Germany have introduced special implants for visually impaired animals. They have already succesfully fitted successfully fitted guide dogs, horses, bears and larger creature. The surgery which is similar to a human cataract operation is performed by specially trained vets. According to the head of department Ingeborg Fromberg, “cataracts generally means blindness for animals, unlike humans. And because animals have short life spans, it means losing quality of life in a greater share of that life." Since last year, the company has had enquiries on behalf of a sea lion with blurred vision, a blind kangaroo and a visually impaired lioness.
