Mild winter may bring misery for hayfever sufferers
Researchers at the University of Worcester's National Pollen and Aerobiology Research Unit have predicted hayfever sufferers could start suffering from symptoms within weeks due to this year's mild winter. The unit has detected pollen in the air months before the hayfever is due to start
Hayfever, which is estimated to affect up to three million people in the UK, is caused by an allergy to pollen ormould spores. Sufferers' immune systems overreact to the presence of external substances as if they were something toxic. This reaction causes irritation and inflammation around the eyes and nose but severe cases can cause breathing problems.
Whilst distressing, symptoms can usually be managed with advice and medication. As with any eye problem, be sure to contact cameronoptometry for expert, professional advice if you are concerned about about allergies and/or your eyes.
