We are delighted to announce that Claire Keith has become our third independent prescriber, having graduated today. After three years of study, Claire joins fellow optometrists Ian Cameron and Gillian Bruce, who already hold the qualification.

We always pride ourselves on our highly qualified team of optometrists, and this makes us the only optometry practice in Scotland with as many qualified prescribers, joining only a handful of practices in the UK who also have three optometrists who hold the qualification.

For our patients, this means another member of our team who can prescribe medication from the practice for example, antibiotic eye drops, meaning there is no need to go to your GP, further alleviating pressure on GP practices. As well as being able to prescribe treatment, all of our optometrists who have completed the qualification have a much better understanding of how existing medication you may be taking can impact on your eye health and vision, and are able to look out for potential complications.

This also gives us another opportunity to remind patients that if they have any eye complaints, they should make us the first port of call as we have the most advanced technology available to examine the eyes and are able to prescribe treatment as required. Emergency appointments are always available and are free to all Vision+ patients.  

Finally, congratulations again to Claire! Three years of study and extensive hands on training in the eye hospital has been very worthwhile.
