Celebrating 20 years of Ian Cameron at the practice

This month we celebrate a very special milestone at Cameron Optometry, as Ian Cameron marks 20 years since joining the practice. Fresh from completing his training, Ian arrived at what was then McGrath and Cameron, enthusiastic, curious, and ready to learn. Two decades later, his calm leadership, clinical expertise, and good humour have become part of the fabric of the practice.

Since becoming managing director, Ian has guided the team through some incredibly challenging periods. Covid, and later the loss of our much loved colleague Heather Grandon, were among the hardest. Ian helped steer the team with compassion and steadiness, always keeping the focus on patient care and staff wellbeing.

Alongside this, he has continued to develop his own skills, gaining further qualifications in glaucoma and expanding his experience in advanced eye care. The practice has won several awards during his tenure, including Independent Practice of the Year, and Ian himself has received the Optometrist of the Year award.

Ian has also played an important part in community health care. During Covid he was deployed to the eye hospital to support emergency treatment, before going on to help deliver the vaccination programme across Edinburgh.

His influence reaches far beyond the consulting room, shaping the culture and spirit of the practice. Pop over to our Instagram account to see 20 photos marking his 20 years.
