Meet our optical assistant, Birgit
Qualifications and experience
Birgit is an undergraduate from Tallinn University of Technology in Estonia, where she studied business administration before packing her bags and moving to Scotland. She has worked in optics since October 2015, with the last five years spent at Cameron Optometry.
In 2022, Birgit became the first optical assistant in the practice to achieve a Level 5 SCQF certificate in optical practice support.
Birgit works across both front-of-house and the contact lens department. She loves the variety of her role, spending one day a week prescreening and seeing patients face-to-face, and the other two days upstairs managing contact lens administration and supporting patients with contact lens handlings.
Favourite glasses
Birgit loves a bold pair of specs. Her all time favourites are Anne & Valentin and Theo, two brands she fell in love with from her very first day at Cameron Optometry thanks to their vibrant colours and confident designs.
Top tip for visiting the optometrist
If you are ever unsure whether you should contact us, Birgit always reassures patients that getting in touch is the right thing to do. It is better to arrive early than late, and there is always time for a nice warm cup of tea or coffee while you are with us.
Best part of the job
Birgit loves the balance of her role and the fact that no two days are the same. She enjoys the focus of contact lens admin just as much as welcoming patients and carrying out prescreening. As a mum to both a toddler and a dog, she especially loves seeing babies, little ones and dogs coming into the practice.
