Diploma of Credit: Clinical Optometric Assistant | Certified Colour Consultant
Lesley’s journey in optics began in 1986 in Michigan, USA, where she trained with a company called NuVision – a bustling practice in a shopping mall with its own on-site glazing lab. This hands-on experience gave Lesley a deep understanding of dispensing, repairs, and behind-the-scenes lab work.
In 1993, Lesley moved back to Scotland and started a temporary role at what was then McGrath & Cameron and is now the longest serving member of the team here.
In 2002, Lesley gained a Diploma of Credit in Clinical Optometric Assisting from Anglia Polytechnic University. More recently, she completed training to become a Certified Colour Consultant, a skill she uses daily to help patients select frames that flatter their colouring and style.
She has undergone extensive lens training over the years from multiple suppliers – most recently Nikon – ensuring that she’s always up to date with the latest lens innovations.
Favourite designer: Theo (she confesses to having three new pairs this year alone!), with a soft spot for Anne et Valentin as well.
Top tip: Always, always have a spare pair of glasses. No one wants to wear their gardening specs to a dinner party!
Best part of the job: Seeing the look on a patient’s face when they love their new specs. That’s the main reason she still loves the job after all these years.
