Specialist clinics update

As we move further into 2026, there is a real sense of momentum within the practice, with shorter waiting times and expanded clinics as well as longer, brighter days giving us a spring in our step.

We are proud to continue caring for patients who have been with us for decades, while also welcoming new patients who come specifically to access our specialist clinics.

Over the past few years we have developed several dedicated services, including:

  • Tear Clinic, diagnosing and managing dry eye disease
  • Myopia Management Clinic, helping to slow the progression of short sight in children
  • Visual Stress Clinic, also known as our reading clinic, helping to make reading more comfortable, particularly for children
  • Vision Therapy Clinic, designed to improve visual efficiency and strengthen the connection between the eyes and brain
  • Low Vision Clinic, supporting patients for whom standard specs are not enough, including Cerebral Visual Impairment assessments
  • Age-related Macular Degeneration Clinic, launching soon, see below

Each clinic combines advanced diagnostic technology with the expertise and specialist training of our optometry team. Our focus is always the same, early detection, personalised care and long term prevention.

Launching Scotland’s first dedicated AMD clinic

We are counting down the weeks until the launch of our specialist age-related macular degeneration (AMD) clinic. There has been a slight delay in the arrival of our new equipment, but we are told it is imminent.

Macular degeneration is one of the leading causes of vision loss in the UK. In its early stages it may cause very subtle changes to central vision, or none that are immediately obvious. Early detection and careful monitoring are crucial in protecting sight.

Our new clinic will offer:

  • advanced retinal imaging and OCT scanning
  • detailed macular assessment and structured monitoring
  • personalised risk profiling
  • access to specialist expertise not previously available in Scotland

This service is particularly relevant for patients over 55, those with a family history of macular degeneration, smokers, or anyone who has noticed distortion, blurring or difficulty with central vision.

If you would like to be added to the waiting list and contacted when appointments open, please email vision@cameronoptom.com. The clinic will be open to both existing patients and those registered at other practices across Scotland and beyond.
